Cloghmore

Court tomb

This small court tomb is situated in Carnanransy townland and is known locally as Cloghmore chambered grave, the image left shows the small semicircular court with a large septal slab in the background. Most of the gallery stones are missing and were probably used in a field wall which now runs through the back of this tomb. There are several other large stones on the other side of the wall. The image below shows the tomb from north side. It was impossible to get images from the other side of the wall, a barb wire fence ran all the way along it.

This whole area is littered with stone circles, court tombs, ogham stones, wedge tombs etc, an absolute joy for any megalithic enthusiasts, if you are visiting Dun Ruadh or Beaghmore then try to fit in a quick detour to some of the lesser known sites.

Situated: In the townland of Carnanransy. From Creggan visitors centre take the B46 north to Greencastle then turn right for Draperstown, after the next cross-roads take the first right then right again at the T-junction then immediate left, the tomb is 400 metres up this road in a field on your right.
